Saving Energy With Cooling Towers By Frank Morrison, Member ASHRAE
According to the author, water-cooled systems save energy compared to air-cooled alternatives for cooling duties. Proper selection, design, operation, and maintenance of evaporative heat rejection equipment used in such systems offer the opportunity to further optimize system energy use. Evaluating sub-system and system performance, as opposed to the performance of individual system components, is a path to significantly improve overall building performance.
